From Goodreads:
Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden.
Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family." But then he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn’t live in fear, and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television.
This is another of those books which I knew I had to read this year. I had it in my head that it had to part of my challenge but hadn't really given any thought to why. When I starting reading it this week I realised that I had had no idea what the book was actually about. It was such a pleasant surprise to discover the theme of it. I'm not really sure what else to say except that I loved it.
My total for the book challenge is now 47/50. Only 3 books left! I feel like the speed with which I'm reading is decreasing as I come closer to the end of the challenge. I can't believe I'm so close to the end. I won't stop adding to this once I've reached 50 though, I'm interested to see how many I actually read this year now. As always you can keep up with what I'm currently reading on my Goodreads page or look at past weeks of the challenge here.
